There was intense security on the UC Berkeley campus for a protest at a speaking event by right-wing author and political commentator Ben Shapiro.
Campus officials were concerned that the protests could see a repeat of the violence that has broken out at previous demonstrations in Berkeley and around the country in recent months, including in February during protests against right-wing provocateur Milo Yiannopoulos.
